Missing man surfaces
HUBBARD -- An 89-year-old McKinley Drive man reported missing Wednesday was found trying to check into a Pittsburgh hotel. Hubbard police said they were notified by Pittsburgh police around 6 p.m. Thursday that Charles F. Shipton Jr. was tired and hungry but otherwise in good health. Pittsburgh police said they found Shipton at the Hilton on Commonwealth Place and took him to UPMC Health Center for evaluation. Hubbard police said Shipton apparently became disoriented after visiting his wife at a nursing home on Belmont Avenue. He asked for directions in Canfield but never arrived in Hubbard. Police believe he got lost while driving on the interstate and kept driving until he reached Pittsburgh.
Accused of arson
BOARDMAN -- Police have charged a 55-year-old group home resident with aggravated arson. She is accused of starting a fire in a trash can inside her room. Police were called Tuesday afternoon to Horizon House, part of the Burdman Group, to assist the fire department. A house monitor at the South Avenue facility told police that a resident, Karen M. David, 55, of Dunlap Street, Youngstown, set fire to the trash can. The smoke was filtering into a hallway of the group home. The fire department extinguished the fire. David told police she was playing with another resident's lighter and caught a paper towel on fire, threw the towel into the trash can and began to put water on the flames. The monitor believes the fire was intentionally set, however.
