Four are arrested during drug sweep in New Castle



More than a pound of cocaine was found in the attic of one home.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City police seized thousands of dollars, stolen guns and drugs in raids on two homes.
Four people were arrested and a fourth is in the hospital after suffering injuries from jumping from a second-story window in an attempt to run from police.
Police said Edward Wright suffered broken ribs and injury to one of his lungs and was taken to Jameson Hospital, where he is under police guard. Hospital officials would not give a report on his condition.
Police said Wright and a juvenile jumped from the window of 606 E. Long Avenue when they arrived at 4:39 p.m. Saturday. The juvenile, who was from Detroit, was not hurt and ran for three blocks before being caught by police. He has been arrested and placed in a youth shelter, said police, who did not release his name.
Aaron Brown, 19, of Reynolds Street, was also in the house but detained on the first floor. He was charged with possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
According to an affidavit filed to support the charges, police found suspected crack cocaine in Brown's pants and $97. Brown was arraigned Saturday and placed in the Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $25,000.
Police said they found a stolen handgun, another handgun with its serial numbers scratched off, a shotgun, ammunition, pill bottles and other drug-related items in the house.
Another raid
Two people were arrested at a second drug raid at 102 N. Walnut Street at about 7 p.m. Friday.
Malkia Brown, 28, of 102 N. Walnut St., is charged with possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, drug possession and drug paraphernalia possession. She was released after posting $50,000 bond.
Tytee Marcellos Mitchell, 28, of Detroit, remains in jail on $150,000 bond. He is charged with possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, two counts of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to court papers, Brown, Mitchell and two children were inside the house during the raid.
In the kitchen, police found a plastic bag with suspected marijuana, $3,138, a silver ring and a cell phone. They also found three bags containing a total of about six ounces of suspected cocaine and $4,000 hidden in the kitchen ceiling tiles.
Police also found a digital scale with suspected cocaine residue, a loaded pistol that was reported as stolen, measuring cups and other kitchen items used to process cocaine.
A canine officer searched the attic and found a plastic bag containing more than a pound of suspected cocaine.
