Community meetingand talent showcase
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Whole Man Ministries' Stopping The Violence Committee, in collaboration with Hi-Praz Network Inc. and Music Artist Consulting of Chicago, will hold a community meeting and a Showcase Preview of Talent at 3 p.m. Saturday at 211 Redondo Road.
The Stopping The Violence Committee is focused on youth and young adults and seeks to maintain self-esteem, good attitudes and sound minds which develops community and family togetherness.
Hi-Praz Network Inc. mentors independent artists, and youths who have a passion to become working artists, in urban communities and low-income areas.
World-famousorchestra to perform
CLEVELAND -- The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, considered one of the top orchestras in the world, will give a concert in Severance Hall at 8 p.m. March 8, as part of the "Severance Hall Presents" series.
Conductor Riccardo Muti will lead the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in a program consisting of Franz Schubert's Overture to Rosamunde; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony No. 35 in D major ("Haffner"), K. 385; Mozart's Sinfonia concertante in E-flat major for Violin, Viola and Orchestra, K. 364, with Vienna Philharmonic Concertmaster Rainer Honeck and Vienna Philharmonic Principal Viola Tobias Lea as soloists; and Richard Strauss's Death and Transfiguration.

Dance production
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster College Dance Theatre's production "Carry the Flame" is scheduled at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and at 2 p.m. March 5 in Orr Auditorium.
"Dance Theatre's theme this year is rhythm nation," said Regina Sharbaugh, associate director of admissions and advisor to the group. "We are representing all genres of dance and dances that are indigenous to several countries."
"'Carry the Flame,' was the theme song for the 2002 Olympic games. It was written by Karin Hendrickson, the daughter of Eileen Hendrickson, who is an instructor of theatre at Westminster," Sharbaugh continued. "Aretha Franklin sang it at the Olympics and junior Nikky Douglas will sing it for this production."

Zoo camp for kids
AKRON -- The Akron Zoo's 2006 ZooCamp schedule is now available and the zoo is accepting registrations. The zoo is offering one-day, three-day and five-day programs beginning in early June and running through mid-August.
ZooCamp is an interactive educational experience for children from infants to 13 years. Children learn about the zoo's animals, the environment, and conservation programs.
One-day ZooCamp programs include a narrated tour of the zoo with a ZooCamp coordinator, a close encounter with an animal, T-shirt, keep-sake photo, zoo souvenir, and a take-home craft. Three and five-day programs add meetings with zoo staff and animal keepers and daily snack.
All camps are broken down into different age categories. The Zoo also offers two sessions for children with special needs.
Each session is limited to 15 campers and reservations must be made in advance. The cost for one-day camp is $25 for Akron Zoo members and $30 for non-members. The cost for a three-day camp is $45 for members and $50 for non-members. Five-day camps are $75 for members and $80 for non-members.

Film series continues
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Jake Erhardt International Film Series continues with "Farewell My Concubine" at 7 p.m. March 7 in the Sebastian Mueller Theater located in the McKelvey Campus Center.
"Kaige Chen's epic film is based on Lillian Lee's novel, which was banned in China," said Deborah Mitchell, associate professor of English and public relations and coordinator of this event. "Within the context of 50 years of Chinese political history, the film centers on two men who meet as performers in the Peking Opera and explores their 50-year friendship."
The event, which is part of a 10-film series, is free and open to the public.
