Lakeview upsets West Geauga, will meet Lake Catholic in semis



West Branch's girls fell to Marlington in a Division II sectional final.
ASHTABULA -- Alynn Martin had 13 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists and Jen Baker was 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter as the Lakeview High girls basketball team outscored third-seeded West Geauga 18-11 in the final period to secure a 65-57 victory in a Division II sectional final at Edgewood High School.
Baker had 11 points and four assists, while Chelsea Butler added 10 points for the Bulldogs (17-5), who will meet unseeded Mentor Lake Catholic at 6 p.m. Thursday. Lake Catholic defeated top-seeded Kenston 59-55 in overtime.
Kristin Hlavin scored 14 points for West Geauga (13-8).
Marlington 42, West Branch 38
LOUISVILLE -- The Warriors (12-9) fell behind at the half 20-13 and never recovered in the Div. II sectional tournament.
Cassi Snoddy scored 11 points and hit the only 3-pointer of the game for the Warriors.
The Dukes are 11-11.
In the other game, Minerva beat Wooster Triway, 44-38.
Boys
Quaker Valley defeated Farrell, 73-62, and Beaver Falls defeated Shenango, 78-61, in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class AA tournament.
No details were provided on either game. Both Farrell (19-8) and Shenango (20-6) qualified for the PIAA state tournament which begins in March.
