Judge sentences man in rec center burglary



One man is going to jail for threatening police with a shovel.
MERCER, Pa. -- A Greenville man received a prison term Friday for burglarizing the Greenville Recreation Center in October.
Judge Thomas Dobson of Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced Armen Bocook, 29, of Elizabeth Street, to 12 to 28 months in prison for burglary and six to 20 months for criminal mischief.
Court documents state that Bocook kicked in three doors in the center, at 45 Alan Ave., on Oct. 3 and broke a display case, causing $6,806 damage. He also took $200 worth of items from the office.
Several other people also received probation or jail terms at their sentencing hearings:
Coleen Barwell, 53, of Clarksville Street, Greenville, was placed on 15 months' probation for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. On Jan. 6, 2005, she was found in possession of less than 2 grams of the drug at her home.
Shane Catrucco, 26, of South Oakland Avenue, Sharon, was placed on 18 months' probation for one count of possession of drugs with intent to deliver. On March 8, 2005, he sold marijuana three times to a confidential informant at the Forrest Brooke Mobile Home Park, Lackawannock Township.
Tyrone Dean, 22, of Philadelphia, was sentenced to 18 days to one year in jail and ordered to make restitution for possessing cocaine and drug paraphernalia. On Feb. 2, 2004, police arrested him in a vehicle on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township that contained cocaine and marijuana.
Tahfaren Owens, 20, of Fruit Avenue, Farrell, was sentenced to 30 days to one year in jail for recklessly endangering another person, two to 24 months for disorderly conduct, and one year of probation and a $200 fine for resisting arrest. On March 31, 2005, he stood in the way of two police officers and refused to allow them to investigate possible narcotics use when they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from a porch area at a Hamilton Avenue, Farrell, address. Owens came at the officers with a shovel and would not drop it when ordered. Then on July 4, 2005, he induced a crowd to throw objects at several officers from the Southwest Mercer County Regional Police Department at an Emerson Avenue address, Farrell.
Alicia Romeo, 25, of East Main Street, Hillsville, was placed on one year's probation and ordered to make restitution for criminal conspiracy/retail theft. On June 9, 2005, she conspired with a man to steal $185 worth of steak and chicken from Shop 'N' Save, 2199 E. State St., Hermitage.
Brian Weir, 27, of Ohio Street, Sharon, was sentenced to 18 to 36 months in prison for theft by unlawful taking, and six to 12 months and ordered to make restitution for criminal conspiracy/retail theft. On Sept. 10, 2005, he took a 2003 Suzuki Z400 Quadsport from Penn Ohio Motor Sports, 195 W. Connelly Blvd., Sharon. He also conspired June 9, 2005, with a woman to steal $185 worth of steak and chicken from Shop 'N' Save, Hermitage.
Marvin Williams, 45, of Budd Street, Sharon, was sentenced to two to 12 months in jail for passing bad checks. He also was ordered to pay costs for two additional counts of passing bad checks and to make restitution. In March 2004, he passed $330 worth of bad checks at Lowe's, 3000 Glimcher Blvd., Hermitage.
