Award for veterinarian
Dr. Samuel Costello of Town and Country Veterinary Hospital in Warren was awarded the prestigious "Most Distinguished Veterinarian of the Year" award by the Ohio Animal Health Foundation today. The award was presented to Dr. Costello at the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association in Columbus.
The requirements for this award were the candidate must be a member of Ohio Veterinary Medical Association; have had a positive influence in promoting animal health and welfare in their community, as well as within the profession; must be of good character, well respected by their colleagues; and must have made outstanding contributions to veterinary medicine and animal health and public awareness.
Dr. Costello drove to Waveland, Miss., and Slidell, La., after Hurricane Katrina to help animals in need, where he assisted a group named Noah's Wish.
He is the veterinary adviser and a member of K-9s for Compassion. He was instrumental in helping to set infection control policies for the group, allowing K-9s access to an array of nursing homes and two hospitals in our area.
He also is on the board of directors for the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County. He also finds time to participate in the "Paws to Read" program at the Hubbard Public Library, as well as their series of animal-related programs during the last four months. His wife is Katie Costello.

Biblical Studies degree
Randy C. Stringer, associate professor of religion at Grove City College, Grove City, Pa., recently completed his Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from Trinity Theological Seminary, a distance education program that allows individuals to complete advanced and terminal degrees while continuing their career.
Stringer, who teaches humanities and Christian thought courses, earned his bachelor of arts and bachelor of theology degrees at Toccoa Falls College and completed work for his master's of divinity degree at Trinity International University, Fuller Theological Seminary, Indiana University and Trinity/University of Liverpool.
He came to Grove City College in 1993 as vice president of institutional advancement and director of institutional research. He has been a full-time professor since 1994. His son, Joshua, attended Grove City for two years and his daughter, Catherine-Noel, will graduate from the college this spring. Stringer and his wife, Cathy, live in Grove City.
