Actor Renfro pleadsguilty in heroin case
LOS ANGELES -- Brad Renfro pleaded guilty to attempted possession of heroin in a case stemming from his December arrest during a sting in Los Angeles' Skid Row area. The 23-year-old actor, whose films include "Ghost World," "The Jacket" and, as a child in 1994, "The Client," entered the plea Thursday. Renfro was given three years' probation and must enter a drug rehabilitation program under a law that allows people convicted of nonviolent drug possession to receive treatment instead of jail time. He faces up to 18 months in prison if he violates the terms of his sentence, said Superior Court Judge David Horwitz. The actor remains free on $10,000 bail pending a court appearance March 6 to begin the rehab program. Renfro voluntarily entered a residential drug rehabilitation program after his Dec. 22 arrest, said his attorney, Richard Kaplan. He is no longer in the live-in program, Kaplan said.
Bernhard will openoff-Broadway show
NEW YORK -- Sandra Bernhard is ready to talk and sing -- off-Broadway. The performer will open April 5 in "Sandra Bernhard: Everything Bad and Beautiful," an evening of entertainment that will feature comedy, social commentary and some rock 'n' roll. Preview performances begin March 29 at the Daryl Roth Theatre. Bernhard is best known for her acerbic, standup comedy. She has appeared in films such as "The King of Comedy," "Somewhere in the City" and "Hudson Hawk." The limited engagement of "Everything Bad and Beautiful" ends May 28.
