Maplewood, Champion, LaBrae girls bow out

ANDOVER -- The Maplewood and Champion girls basketball teams bowed out of the Division III sectional tournament Tuesday night.
The Rockets dropped a 49-37 decision to Villa Angela- St. Joe, while the Golden Flashes were edged by Gilmour, 57-54.
Jamie Kumpe, Leah Dean and Kristen Schwartz led the Rockets with 12, 11 and 10 points respectively while Shannon Davis topped VASJ with 16 points.
Elizabeth Glindia topped Champion with 19 points while Jaclyn Carpenter added 14.
Tiffany Tyree paced all scorers with 23 for Gilmour.

ROOTSTOWN -- In the sectional at Rootstown High School, LaBrae fell behind early and never recovered before losing to Chagrin Falls, 47-35.
The second-seeded Tigers (16-5) jumped out to a 13-4 lead after eight minutes and made it 21-10 by the break.
Jane Stricker scored 15 points for the Tigers.
Angelica Pugh and Madeline D'Orio each scored seven points for LaBrae.
