GIRLS BASKETBALL Lakeview tops Aurora; United pulls past CVCA
ASHTABULA -- The Lakeview High girls basketball team put three players in double figures as it posted a 58-41 victory over Aurora Wednesday in a Division II sectional tournament game at Ashtabula Edgewood.
The Bulldogs (16-5) held a 27-18 lead at halftime, then cruised to the win.
Amy Downs sparked the Bulldogs with 13 points, while Chelsea Butler and Alynn Martin chipped in with 11 apiece.
Lakeview had a 33-27 rebounding advantage. Downs grabbed 11 and Joanna Novotny had five assists.
The Greenmen finished with a 9-12 record.
In another contest, Mentor Lake Catholic eliminated Orange 81-21.
Lakeview will battle West Geauga Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for a sectional title.
United 60, CVCA 49
ROOTSTOWN -- Danielle Ramus scored 18 points to lead United, which outscored Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 34-23 in the second half of a Division III sectional final.
Darlene Woolf and Caitlin Higgins each added eight points for the Eagles (7-14), who will meet Waterloo March 2.
Leah Workman led CVCA with nine points.
Waterloo 65, Newton Falls 39
ROOTSTOWN -- Cara Bedard scored 28 points to lead Waterloo (19-2).
Dani Brockett added 12 points for the Vikings, who made 24 goals to Newton Falls' 11.
Both teams attempted 23 free throws, but Waterloo converted two more than Newton Falls: 16 to 14.
Emily Montomgery scored 14 points and Casee Piquet added 13 points for the Tigers (7-15), who trailed 31-20 at halftime before being outscored in the third period, 23-7.
Chanel 80, Bristol 22
BURTON -- Chanel put 12 players in the scoring column and rolled to a 43-10 halftime lead as it eliminated Bristol in a Div. IV tournament game at Berkshire.
Katie Bubna sparked Chanel with 19 points. Ashley Davis added 16 and Aly Savosy had 10.
Alyssa Giesy and Andrea Molinatto each had 11 points for Bristol (3-18).
In another contest, Lutheran East turned back Fairport 54-44.
