Fire destroys half of Austintown duplex
AUSTINTOWN -- Andrew Frost Jr., township assistant fire chief, said the cause of a Sunday evening fire that destroyed half a duplex at 243 Third St. remains under investigation.
The fire occurred at 5:55 p.m. It caused $50,000 in damage to the structure and $15,000 to the contents of the apartment, a fire department report says.
The fire department said the front side of the duplex burned while the back apartment suffered heavy smoke damage. A firefighter required stitches after broken glass cut his hand.
