Dunn's shot aids Bulldogs
His shot gave East Palestine a 57-56 win over South Range.
EAST PALESTINE -- Zac Dunn made a winning layup shot with nine seconds remaining as the East Palestine High boys basketball team edged South Range 57-56 Tuesday in a non-conference game in the Bulldogs' gymnasium.
The Raiders (6-12) led 31-27 at intermission, but the Bulldogs (15-4) tied the score 45-45 heading into the final quarter.
Travis Foreman paced East Palestine with 17 points and he grabbed 10 rebounds. Dunn added 14 points. Jake Harvey and Tim Doran each had three assists.
Dan Holloway led the Raiders with 24 points. David Maxwell chipped in with 12.
Salem 69, Rayen 28
SALEM -- The Quakers (17-2) put the game out of reach 39-16 by halftime.
Ryan Benchwick paced the Quakers' balanced scoring attack with 19 points and he pulled down seven rebounds. Tom Jesko added 16 points and Buddy Cramer had 10. Tyler Pierce grabbed 12 rebounds and he had three steals.
Matt Gordon led the Tigers (3-15) with seven points and 10 rebounds.
Niles 79, Chaney 57
NILES -- The Red Dragons rushed out to a 26-13 first quarter lead and they were in front 40-29 at intermission.
Bill Frech sparked Niles (14-5) with 20 points. Justin Allen chipped in with 16, while Andrew Cleary and Sean Cleary had 14 and 11.
Antonio Fitzgerald, Corey Council and Dominique Peake scored 14 points apiece for the Cowboys (4-15). Council grabbed nine rebounds and Fitzgerald had five assists.
Warren Harding 67, Mooney 39
WARREN -- O'dell Eargle scored 18 points while Roddy Fuller added eight points and eight rebounds for Harding (13-6, 7-0), which took a 39-18 halftime lead in a Steel Valley Conference game. Tashon Williams added 12 points for the Raiders.
Jaron Hovell had five points and seven rebounds for Mooney.
Minerva 72, United 55
HANOVERTON -- Minerva jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the first quarter and the Golden Eagles couldn't recover. Carter Battista poured in 26 points to lead the Lions (7-11). Dan Shaffer sparked United with 12 points.
Lisbon 55, Jackson-Milton 25
NORTH JACKSON -- The Blue Devils' defense limited the Bluejays to six points in the first quarter, eight in the second, three in the third and eight in the fourth to prevail.
Marcus Judy sparked Lisbon (7-13) with 15 points. Corey Smith added 11. Matt Shield paced the Bluejays (1-18) with nine points.
Lakeview 72, Champion 63
CHAMPION -- A 23-16 surge in the second quarter gave Lakeview a 41-26 lead by halftime.
Dustin Opalka sparked the Bulldogs (14-4, 10-2) with 21 points in the Trumbull Athletic Conference game. Ed Mackiewicz chipped in with 14.
Katrell Jones and Markel Vaughn led the Golden Flashes (6-13, 3-10) with 14 and 10 points respectively.
Brookfield 78, Hubbard 76
HUBBARD -- Cory Richards had a career-high 39 points including nine 3-point goals to lead Brookfield.
The two teams combined for 18 3-point goals as Frank Rosile led Hubbard (6-12, 5-7 TAC) with 26 points including six 3-point goals.
Josh Harkulich added 18 points for Brookfield (6-12, 4-8), while Corey Hitt had 21 and Dexter Bledsoe added 17 for the Eagles.
