O'Halloran has four races at state swimming meet



CANTON -- Boardman sophomore Conner O'Halloran will compete in three relays and an individual event while the Canfield boys will compete in two relays at this weekend's state swimming meet at C.T. Branin Natatorium.
O'Halloran, who will swim individually in the 50-yard freestyle, also will be a part of the three relays: the 200 freestyle relay, the 400 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay.
Canfield also will compete in the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay.
O'Halloran's older brother, Tyler, won state titles in the 50 freestyle as a junior and a senior.
He also won a state title in the 100 freestyle as a senior. Tyler O'Halloran now swims at the University of Texas.
In Division II girls, Warren JFK senior Julia Gregos will compete in the 100 freestyle, Beaver Local sophomore Jessica Steve will swim in the 200 freestyle and Cardinal Mooney sophomore Morgan McCarty will swim in the 100 breaststroke.
In Thursday's diving competition, Springfield sophomore Kacie Jaric and Poland junior Mary Vallinger will compete.
No girls qualified in Div. I.
Boys basketball
MINERVA -- Senior Tom Jesko scored 19 points and pulled down six rebounds as the Salem High boys basketball team defeated Minerva on Saturday, 56-44.
Buddy Cramer scored 15 points for the Quakers (16-2) while Jarin Heath had 10 and six rebounds.
Carter Battista led the Lions (6-13) with 20 points.
