Family Dollar employeereports being robbed
BOARDMAN -- A female employee of the Family Dollar store, 4030 Market St., was robbed of $3,362 in cash and checks at 3 p.m. Sunday as she was taking money for a deposit at a nearby bank.
Police said the woman was at Market and Hillman Avenue when a tall man stuck an object in her lower back and demanded money. Although she did not see a weapon, she believed her assailant was armed and she gave him a bank deposit bag containing the cash and checks.
The robber fled north on foot on Newport Square, which runs between the bank and Burger King.
About 10 minutes later, police said they spotted three young men at Ravenwood Avenue and Hillman, one of whom fit the general description of the robber.
The trio ran. Two juveniles were apprehended in the Ravenwood area. However, police didn't believe they were involved in the robbery, and they were released.
Two pistols were found in yards along the route the two ran, but the weapons have not been connected to either of the men to this point, police said.
Still time to orderGirl Scout cookies
NILES -- Did you miss that time again? Were you out when your neighborhood Girl Scout attempted to sell you cookies? Don't fret or frown, you can still order.
The cost of each box is $3 and, with that $3 you are increasing girls' skills in teamwork, finances, goal-setting and so much more, said Susan E. Paczak of Girl Scouts of Lake to River Council, based here.
One-third of the revenue collected goes back to the seller's troop where her troop can decide on its use. The remainder supports council programs, trains leaders and helps provide summer camp programs.
If you do not know whom to contact, call the local Girl Scout office in Niles at (800) 362-9430 and they will assist you.
