The procedure, known as robotically-assisted TMR (transmyocardial revascularization), is performed at Summa Health System's Minimally Invasive Surgery Institute utilizing a robot and a laser.
In robotically-assisted TMR, the surgeon makes a small incision between the ribs and delivers low-powered laser energy to targeted areas of the heart muscle while the patient is under general anesthesia.
The procedure offers an alternative to open heart surgery and quicker healing time.
