Panel names Faulkner as coordinator

The organization seeks to create a vision for education reflecting local goals.
YOUNGSTOWN --Mahoning Valley Vision for Education has named Robert L. Faulkner Sr. its new coordinator.
He replaces Joyce Brooks, who held the post since the group's inception in July 2002. She resigned in December.
Faulkner, a 15-year Warren City School Board member and current board president, was instrumental in the formation of MVVE and has been involved as a volunteer. He retired after a 30-year career with Delphi Packard Electric Systems as the manager of community relations worldwide.
He also served as the Regional Chamber's vice president of education/training and work force development and was the executive director of the Mahoning Valley Labor Management Council from 2001 to 2004.
The Regional Chamber created MVVE, a business-labor-civic partnership, after a series of education summits inspired more than 130 concerned education and business leaders to become more involved with the Mahoning Valley's educational systems.
The goal was to develop a vision for education that accurately reflects the goals of Mahoning Valley residents, and MVVE has held 70 focus groups with more than 1,400 participants to discuss and gain community input regarding the Valley's educational delivery systems.
MVVE continues to work under contract for both Youngstown (in partnership with The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance) and Warren City Schools' High School Transformation Initiatives. MVVE is also working with YSU's Early College Program in conjunction with Youngstown City Schools.
