Saturday, February 18, 2006

McDONALD -- Gregory Dzurinda, a student at McDonald High School, has been selected to perform with The Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus on its 2006 European concert tour.
He will join other select student musicians representing nearly every state for the 25-day July tour that will start in Germany and take them to Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France and Luxembourg to play in some of Europe's finest concert halls and major cathedrals.
The group will meet on the campus of Gettysburg (Pa.) College on June 30 for four days of rehearsal and orientation before departing for Frankfurt.
The band and chorus has received international acclaim for developing cultural relationships with European countries.
Dzurinda, son of Matt and Tracie Dzurinda of Oregon Avenue, is a euphonium player with McDonald's concert, marching and pep bands and is also a member of the choir.
He has participated in both the District V Honors Band and Inter-County League Honors Band and plans to study music in college after graduation from high school in 2007.
He is studying music performance and music theory with his band director, Marilyn Prodnick.
