YOUNGSTOWN -- Councilwoman Carol Rimedio-Righetti, D-4th, will host a West Side Citizens' Coalition meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Italian-American Club, 115 S. Meridian Road.
Invited to speak are U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th; Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams and members of his cabinet; officials with Global Entertainment, the company managing the Chevrolet Centre; and Herb Washington, owner of the Youngstown SteelHounds minor league hockey team. The meeting is open to the public.
Robbins to run again
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- State Sen. Bob Robbins of Greenville, R-50th, will announce his re-election bid Monday on a three-stop tour. He is seeking his fifth term. He will first stop at 10 a.m. at the Mercer County Republican headquarters, 124 S. Diamond St., Mercer. His other stops will be at noon at the Meadville Republican headquarters, 312 Chestnut St., and 2:30 p.m. at the New Englander in Neshannock Township, Lawrence County.
First elected in 1982 to the state house, Robbins became a senator in 1990. He serves in the leadership position of the majority caucus secretary and as vice chairman of the veterans affairs and emergency preparedness committee.
ACLU to lead discussion
YOUNGSTOWN -- The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio will lead a discussion about unchecked presidential power and the U.S. Patriot Act at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at Youngstown State University's Kilcawley Center in the Ohio Room.
Gary Daniels, ACLU of Ohio litigation coordinator, and Frank Kunstel, ACLU of Ohio activist, will reflect on decisions being made that affect civil liberties. This event is free; refreshments will be provided. To RSVP, call (216) 472-2200 or e-mail contact@acluohio.org.
Williams to speak
LIBERTY -- Youngstown Mayor Jay Willliams will be the guest speaker when the Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods sponsors its annual fund-raiser banquet April 20.
The event will get under way at 6:30 at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex. The theme is "A New Beginning and the Time is Now." Tickets are $25 a person and $200 a table. Contact the ACTION office, (330) 744-7979.
Veterans Death Report
LISBON -- Columbiana County Recorder Craig Brown said his office has received the county's Veterans Death Report from the Ohio Department of Vital Statistics. The report lists the names of veterans who were buried in the county during 2005. The report also lists birth locations and burial locations. Brown said he will provide veterans' organizations with free copies of the list.
A celebration of Dunbar
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Second Baptist Church of New Castle, Paul Laurence Dunbar Reading Circle of Youngstown, along with the Kuumba Players of Western Pennsylvania, will present a celebration of Paul Laurence Dunbar's 100 years legacy. The Kuumba Players will present a Reader's Theatre Presentation, "Paul Laurence Dunbar in Truth" at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church, 537 Bell Ave.
