Boardman romps; Girard upsets Lisbon

ALLIANCE -- April Melquist scored seven of her 13 points in the third quarter Saturday as Boardman defeated Akron Ellet 56-20 in the Division I sectional girls basketball tournament at Alliance High School.
Leading 23-7 at the break, the Spartans (14-6) held Ellet (7-12) scoreless for the first four minutes of the second half to take a 41-12 lead into the final quarter.
Boardman will meet Canton GlenOak in the sectional tournament Thursday at 6 p.m. Earlier this year, the Spartans defeated GlenOak, 65-44.
Division III
HANOVERTON -- Trailing by five points in the fourth quarter, the Indians rallied for the upset as Brittany Palmer scored seven points in the final frame at United High.
Ashley Palmer led Girard (4-17) with 11 points. Girard's other top scorers were Lauren Chiec and Sarroya Townsend with 10 apiece and Jenna Ruiz with nine.
For the Blue Devils, Erica Sims scored 17 points, Emily Smith 13 and Caitlin Glenn nine.
Crestview 76, South Range 64
HANOVERTON -- Brianne Phillis poured in 32 points and Chelsea Bowker connected for 25 for the Rebels.
Saturday at 6 p.m., Crestview will play Campbell in the sectional final.
Cynthia Schuler and Heather Stacy led the Raiders with 21 and 20 points.
Springfield 47, Rootstown 43
HANOVERTON -- Mindy Ritzler's 10 points and Christy Warren's nine led Springfield to the tournament-opening win at United High.
Thursday at 7:30 p.m., the Tigers will play East Palestine for a sectional title.
Division IV
HUBBARD -- Kaitlyn McCarthy scored 13 points and Ali Grapevine 12 as the Rockets (14-7) advanced to a sectional final game by defeating Badger, 38-29, at Hubbard High School.
Kristen Pallozzi scored 11 for Lowellville, which will play the winner of Monday's Youngstown Christian/Southington game on Thursday.
The Braves (8-13) were led by Rachel Gaines and Samantha Bonar with nine points apiece.
