Another snowless festival expected

Saturday, February 18, 2006

ELYRIA (AP) -- The mostly snowless 16-year Elyria Winter Festival may be without snow again this weekend.
In the festival's 16-year history, there has been snow only three times, according to Lisa Bowman, a recreation supervisor in this city 25 miles southwest of Cleveland.
The festival was held in January for 10 years but was moved to February in hopes of snowier weather.
Gary Mason, parks and recreation activity supervisor, said some activities including sled races, snowman contests and the snowball throw would be canceled if snow doesn't develop.
The National Weather Service regional forecast called for partly cloudy skies today and Sunday, with no mention of snow. The weather Friday afternoon was sunny and 30 degrees.
