Group, family seek to block killer's release
NILES -- The Mercer County chapter of Parents of Murdered Children and the family of a 2-year-old girl who was kicked to death in 1994 want to stop the killer's release from prison.
The group and Christy Anderson, the child's mother, will be at the Eastwood Mall on Saturday and Sunday seeking signatures asking that William C. Everheart not be released on parole.
He is serving his time at the Pennsylvania Correctional Institution at Albion.
Everheart, 39, was sentenced in 1995 in Mercer County Common Pleas Court to 10 to 20 years in prison after being convicted of third-degree murder in the death of Lisa Marie McGhee Dickson. At the time of the murder, Everheart was Anderson's boyfriend.
"It was one of those cases you don't forget. It was a brutal case," said James Epstein, Mercer County district attorney.
Epstein said he has opposed Everheart's release.
He noted that the girl's grandfather, who has since died, was a founding member of the Mercer chapter of the parent group.
