HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- Water is expected to start flowing in the next few days from the new Edinburg waterline.
Supervisor Poncho Exposito said Tuesday when Mahoning Township supervisors met that the completed line had been flushed earlier in the day and only a bacteria test remains to be done.
He said meters will be set up in the next four to five days.
Once they are installed, residents who already have the waterline connected to their home will be able to turn it on.
Construction of the line started in October. It will serve about 110 homes.
Also, supervisors urged residents to attend a community rally in support of the proposed Bedford Downs racetrack at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Cascade Galleria in downtown New Castle.
The rally was planned by several community groups and is intended to convey a message that the complex is welcome in Lawrence County.
The racetrack would be in Mahoning Township off U.S. Route 422.
Funds for 'zipper'
Supervisors also learned that Mahoning and four other townships have been awarded $12,000 in liquid fuels money from Lawrence County commissioners toward purchase of an asphalt "zipper."
The machine would be shared by the group of municipalities and used for breaking up pavement and patching.
The other municipalities are Pulaski, Perry and Neshannock townships and Ellwood City.
Other funding
The remainder of the $65,000 cost will come from a $35,000 Pennsylvania Department of Economic and Community Development grant and from contributions from each municipality.
Exposito also announced the fire department will sponsor a NASCAR Party at 1 p.m. Sunday at Edinburg Fire Station.
Admission is $12, and proceeds will benefit the fire department.
