Panels to plan for library cuts
WARREN -- The finance and personnel committees of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library Board of Trustees will soon conduct a joint meeting to discuss potential cuts in library service if the 0.6-mill additional continuing levy fails on the May 2 primary ballot.
The board voted Tuesday to have the joint committee meeting, and Robert D. Briell, library director, said the planning meeting will be held before the election.
The library system can remain solvent at current staff and service levels this year, but reduced state funding will hurt the system next year, Briell said. "If the levy doesn't pass, we all know we're OK for 2006; 2007 is going to be a problem," Briell told the board.
Voters defeated a 1-mill continuing library levy by a 52 percent-48 percent margin Nov. 8.
