New Castle School Board moves to eliminate administrative post

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- With the assistant superintendent's decision to retire at the end of the school year, the New Castle School Board has moved to eliminate that post, effective June 30.
Nick DeRosa, who has served in the position more than 18 years, has said his last day with the school district will be June 30. He has worked there more than 40 years.
The school board on Wednesday renamed the position of special programs coordinator. It will be called administrative assistant to the superintendent, effective July 1.
Essentially, the district has increased the responsibilities of Stan Magusiak, technical specialist, naming him to the new post with additional responsibilities. His annual salary was set at $93,945, $5,000 more than what he currently makes.
His job responsibilities will focus on technology services.
The board also created the position of administrative assistant to the superintendent, with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction. That position also pays a starting salary of $93,945.
In other matters, the board:
Agreed to allow the firm of Arthurs, Lestrange and Co. Inc. of New Castle to evaluate whether it would be in the district's best interest to refinance a 2003 bond that resulted from a refinancing of a 1998 bond. Any savings from a refinancing would go into the district's capital improvement fund.
Agreed to pay E. Thomas Brett Business Machines of Horsham, Pa. $10,998 for a new hydraulic paper cutter for the district's printing shop.
