Man faces charge of attempted rape

LISBON -- The Columbiana County Sheriff's Office has charged Tom Price, 32, of Salem with the attempted rape of an elderly woman Oct. 30, 2005.
Price was picked up several days ago by deputies on outstanding warrants stemming from a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.
Sheriff David Smith said Detective Steve Walker had obtained information about the case. Price was arrested while walking along a road, and Walker obtained a confession from Price. Smith praised Walker's work in the case.
The sheriff said the 80-year-old woman lived on Yellow Creek Church Road in Franklin Township. She heard a sound and discovered Price in her kitchen. They scuffled, and Price tried to remove the woman's clothes, Smith said. He said the woman was able to fend off Price.
Price was being held at the county jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
