E. Palestine secures title share



LEETONIA -- Five-foot-9-inch senior post player Joe Thompson poured in 23 points as the East Palestine High boys basketball team posted a 66-56 victory over Leetonia Tuesday to clinch a tie for the Tri-County League championship.
Junior Jake Harvey scored 17 points for the Bulldogs (13-4, 11-2).
East Palestine pulled away from a 33-33 halftime tie by outscoring Leetonia 15-8 in the third quarter.
Ryan Weikart led the Bears (8-11, 4-9) with 17 points. Jon Williams and Corey Creamer chipped in with 10 apiece.
Wellsville 51, Lisbon 42
LISBON -- Zach Welch poured in 26 points including three 3-pointers for the Tigers (14-3, 9-3 TCL).
Josh Lyle also scored 13 points for Wellsville. The Tigers led just 35-33 entering the final quarter.
Marcus Judy scored 12 points, T.J. Johnson had 11 and Corey Smith had 10 for Lisbon (6-12, 5-8).
Columbiana 60, United 50
COLUMBIANA -- Deric Graft's 19 points led the Clippers (5-14, 3-10).
Andrew Tirpak and Morgan Hart each scored 12 for Columbiana. Hart also had 11 rebounds and blocked four shots. Cory Guy dished out 10 assists.
For the Eagles (5-12, 4-9), Dan Shaffer scored 13 points and Brandon Kekel 12. Rob Muhleman made eight rebounds while Tyler Boyle had four steals and four assists.
