Workshop to focus on Holocaust

SHARON, Pa. -- Penn State Shenango will sponsor a workshop March 4 for teachers titled "Light Pierces the Darkness: Testimonies of Hope and Inspiration out of the Holocaust."
The workshop will be presented by Dr. Racelle Weiman, founding director of the Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education in Cincinnati. The display is one of the traveling exhibits from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati. The display will be featured March 3-31 at Temple Beth Israel, 840 Highland Road.
Holocaust education is among the Pennsylvania academic standards for history/social studies for middle and high school grades sevent to 12. Participation in the campus' workshop will prove useful for teachers who are interested in exploring new ways to introduce and explore this topic in their classrooms.
The program is free, but enrollment is limited to 20 teachers. Registration and light refreshments will start at 9:30 a.m., and the workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations will be accepted by e-mail at fxl1@psu.edu until Monday or until enrollment is filled.
