Pledge, flag featured on specialty plates
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles has announced that new specialty license plates that pay tribute to the American flag and the Pledge of Allegiance will be available for sale Feb. 21.
The new plates feature an image of the U.S. flag, along with the familiar phrase from the Pledge of Allegiance, "one nation under God." The pledge was written by Francis Bellamy in 1892 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of the New World. Modified several times since then, it is recited daily across the country by schoolchildren and at official government functions.
The plates will cost $10 in addition to the normal registration fees. They may be issued to passenger vehicles, noncommercial trucks, motor homes, house vehicles and noncommercial trailers.
The plates will be issued at any deputy registrar's office, by mail, or online at www.oplates.com. Requests for special plates may be made at any deputy registrar's office online, through the mail, or by calling the Bureau of Motor Vehicles at (888) 752-8373.
Pledge plates also may be ordered or reserved or personalized with additional applicable fees.
