Judge Thomas Dobson of Mercer County Common Pleas Court imposed these sentences last week:
Amy Begeot, 21, of Clifton Drive, Warren, Ohio, placed on 18 months' probation for misdemeanor retail theft of items in July 2005 from the Wal-Mart in Hermitage.
Harouna Diabira, 29, and Mamadou Diabira, 33, both of Cincinnati, placed on 18 months' probation for one count of trademark counterfeiting, a misdemeanor, and each sentenced to 750 on each of three other counts of trademark counterfeiting. Court documents state the two men were apprehended in October 2005 on Interstate 80, Findley Township, in possession of shirts with counterfeit trademarks of brand-named merchandise.
Timothy Martin, 19, of Frank Street, Sharon, Justin Page, 19, of Flowers Avenue, Sharon, and Albert Wilson, 19, of Cedar Avenue, Sharon, all sentenced to nine months on house arrest for misdemeanor disorderly conduct stemming from a Jan. 7, 2006, incident. Court documents state the three men beat two 16-year-old boys at Edgewood Road and Prindle Street, Sharon, causing cuts and bruises to one and causing the other to momentarily pass out.
Gary Moyer, 60, of Orchard Drive, Grove City, fined 1,500 and sentenced to 180 days to 18 months in jail for driving under the influence and accident involving personal injury, both misdemeanors. Court documents state Moyer was in an accident on Pa. Route 58, Pine Township on Oct. 7, 2005. He identified himself to the driver of the other vehicle, a woman who sustained neck injuries, then left the scene. It was Moyer's second conviction for driving under the influence.
Jeffrey Oakes, 28, of North Foster Road, Jackson Center, sentenced to 18 to 36 months in prison for felony burglary. Court documents say that on Feb. 13, 2006, he entered a Boyd Road, Vernon Township residence and stole 6.
Solomon Owens, 28, formerly of Pennsylvania Avenue, Farrell, and now of the county jail, sentenced to 15 to 40 months in prison followed by six months' probation for firearm not to be carried without a license, a felony, and simple assault, a misdemeanor. He was declared boot camp eligible. Court documents state that Owens pointed a semiautomatic pistol at a man's head at a Sharon home after having been convicted of numerous felonies. Owens also punched the man and cut his lip.
Laura Shaffer, 20, of Dale Street, Grove City, sentenced to two eight-to-18-month prison terms followed by one year's probation for two counts of indecent assault and two counts of corruption of minors, all misdemeanors. Court documents say that in September 2005 she inappropriately touched a 13-year-old girl's private parts while the girl was asleep. In August and September 2005, she also repeatedly grabbed the breast and buttocks of 13- and 14-year-old girls. The incidents occurred at a Springfield Township residence.
Dwayne Smith, 31, of White Avenue, Sharon, sentenced to 223 days to 15 months in prison for simple assault, a misdemeanor. Court documents state that on May 11, 2006, at his residence, he dragged a pregnant woman by her hair, continuously struck her head on a floor and used a statue to choke her into unconsciousness. He also stabbed her leg with a voltage tester, punched her in the face and abdomen and told her he was going to kill her.
