10th annual environmental workshop to be held

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Environmental Education Council of Ohio will hold its 10th annual Environmental Education Resource Fair Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm on State Route 46, across from the Canfield Fairgrounds.
"Discover the Core: Environmental Explorations for Pre-kindergarten to Grade 4 Educators" will focus on exploration and observation as skills that are the core of learning for younger children. It will be a hands-on, active presentation illustrating processes of inquiry and making inferences tailored to the needs of early childhood educators.
Presentations in both large and small group settings for subjects across the curriculum will showcase the environmental education resources available in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
Some activities may be outdoors, weather permitting, and participants are advised to dress for the weather. There will be a lot of handouts, and make-it/take-it activities will be available to assist teachers with their curriculum.
Subjects include sciences, Ohio history, math, art, language arts and cultural studies.
A 10 fee covers lunch, refreshments and workshop materials, and reservations should be made by sending checks payable to EECO to Cheryl Mattevi, 831 Highland Ave., Salem, OH 44460. Registrations must be received by Jan. 20.
This project was possible in part through a grant from the Ohio Environmental Education Fund, a program of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
