North Carolina cruises; Arizona tops California

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Brandan Wright had 19 points and seven rebounds Thursday night to lead No. 2 North Carolina past Rutgers 87-48.
Fellow freshman Wayne Ellington added 17 points for the Tar Heels (11-1), who used a burst after halftime to cruise to an easy win in a game marked by the strong play of their rookies.
Adrian Hill scored 13 points to lead the Scarlet Knights (6-6), who played without leading scorer J.R. Inman and fellow starter Anthony Farmer. Both were serving one-game suspensions for academic reasons.
The Tar Heels got off to a slow start against Rutgers' deliberate offense in the first half, but took a 33-19 lead at the break. They opened the second half with a 23-9 run to put it away, closing with a 3-pointer from Danny Green for a 56-28 lead with about 121/2 minutes left.
North Carolina's standout freshmen led the way. Wright, a 6-foot-9 forward, went 8-for-10 from the field and had three blocks. Ellington went 5-for-6 from 3-point range and point guard Ty Lawson finished with six points and nine assists with no turnovers.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Marcus Williams scored 21 points and Ivan Radenovic added 17 to help Arizona earn its 10th straight victory.
Williams made all eight of his shots from the floor and Radenovic hit 6-of-7. The hot-shooting Wildcats hit 60.3 percent (35-of-58) from the floor in the Pac-10 opener for both schools.

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Julian Wright and Russell Robinson led a second-half charge that enabled mistake-prone Kansas to pull away late.
Mario Chalmers led the Jayhawks (11-2) with 22 points.
No. 11 Texas A & amp;M 101,Grambling St 27
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Josh Carter tied a school record with eight 3-pointers and Texas A & amp;M scored the first 28 points of the game.
Carter also tied a Big 12 record with seven 3s in the first half and Joseph Jones finished with 20 points for the Aggies (11-2), who also set a school record for most points in a first half while taking a 65-13 lead at the break.

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Glen Davis had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead LSU to the win in the second round of the Hispanic College Fund Classic.
Tasmin Mitchell, who was 6-of-8 from the field, finished with 17 points for LSU (9-3).
No. 19 Notre Dame 101, Rider 51
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Rob Kurz scored 23 points and Kyle McAlarney had 21 points on seven 3-pointers for the Irish. Notre Dame's Luke Harangody tied his career high with 18 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double and fourth of the season.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Junior guard JaJuan Smith had a career-high 23 points for Tennessee.
Chris Lofton, averaging 22.5 points, added 14 points for the Vols. Ryan Childress had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Duke Crews finished with 10 points and 10 boards. It was the first time in four years the Vols had two players with double-doubles in a game.
Belton Rivers led Tennessee Tech (5-7) with 20 points.
No. 22 Memphis 87, Lamar 62
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Chris Douglas-Roberts had 19 points and seven rebounds, and Memphis overcame a slow first half to get the win.
Douglas-Roberts, the Tigers' leading scorer, shot 9-of-16 from the field and was one of five players to score in double figures for Memphis.
No. 24 Nevada 89, Maine 69
RENO, Nev. -- Marcelus Kemp scored 20 points and Nick Fazekas added 18 points and 13 rebounds for Nevada. Kyle Shiloh had nine points and Ramon Sessions eight points and seven assists for the Wolf Pack (11-1), who shot 60 percent from the field while holding the Black Bears to 38 percent.
No. 25 Clemson 75, Georgia 60
CLEMSON, S.C. -- Freshman Trevor Booker had 14 points and Vernon Hamilton finished with 13 to help Clemson to remain undefeated.
Terrance Woodbury scored 14 points for Georgia (8-3), which finished with a season-high 26 turnovers.
