Mount Union defeats Roanoke 50-48

PHOENIX -- Mount Union blew most of a double digit lead in the final 10 minutes and survived a missed 3-pointer at the buzzer, to defeat Roanoke (Va.), 50-48, in the second round of the Cactus Hoop Jam Classic Thursday.
The Purple Raiders (5-5) led 46-33 with 10:03 remaining in the game, but made just one basket the rest of the way. Roanoke (1-7) got to within 49-48 with 0:08 to go on a layup by Ben Shrader. L.J. Helton was fouled immediately made one of two free throws, and Shrader missed a 3-pointer at the end of the game.
Stu Anglam led Mount Union with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Nick Sefscik added 11 points.
Roanoke was led by A.J. Dowell and Josh Laporte with 13 points each.
Lawrence (Wis.) 69, Allegheny 57
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Jayce Apelgren scored a career-high 17 points to lead 14th-ranked Lawrence (5-3) in the semifinals of the Land of Magic Classic, hosted by Embry-Riddle University.
Ryan Kroger added 10 points for Lawrence, while Andy Hurley finished with seven points and 13 rebounds.
Allegheny (5-4) was led by Larry Sharp's 17 points. The Gators shot 37 percent (19-of-51) from the floor.
The Gators play Mary Washington (Va.) today at 4 p.m.
Women
NORTH CANTON -- Georgetown (Ky.) rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit to defeat Walsh, 75-66.
Georgetown's (11-4) Megan Gray led all players with 26 points.
Eulise Dickerson and Brittany Maddox each scored 11 points to lead Walsh (2-9).
