Zambelli Fireworks to light up Times Square

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The sky will be awash with Zambelli fireworks at the world’s most watched New Year’s celebration.

The New Castle company has been hired to handle New York City's Times Square celebration, which will include new technology allowing for no fireworks fallout on the nearby crowd.

Starting at 6 p.m. and every hour following there will be red and white fireworks displays sponsored by Target, said Dr. George Zambelli Jr., family spokesman.

In the final countdown before the new year, fireworks will go off every second in the last 10-second countdown, he said.

This is the first year Zambelli Fireworks has participated in the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration. About 10 to 12 pyrotechnicians will be in New York working on the display that night, he said.

The countdown fireworks will literally shoot horizontally, offering a spectacular and dazzling frame for the countdown screen. Brand new technology has been used by Zambelli to both plan and execute the state-of-the art display.

The computer-fired show is fully choreographed to “Auld Lang Syne.” The show designer is Matt Wood.

At the stroke of midnight, fireworks will be fired from a total of 29 separate locations on the One Times Square building using new capless devices, which do not have any fallout and allow the pyrotechnicians to shoot fireworks in close proximity to the crowd.
