Lieutenant retires
Air Force Lt. Joseph S. Skoda III has retired from the military after 21 years of service.
Skoda, a 1985 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, lives in Santa Barbara, Calif., with his wife, Esther Lizette.
He is a real estate agent and owns a property management company, while his wife owns a marketing business.
Skoda, who received his commission in 2002, is a son of Joseph S. Jr. and Margaret M. Skoda, both deceased. He has two children, Joseph IV and Jesse, both in South Carolina, and two brothers, Brian in Tennessee and Thomas of Austintown.
During his career, Skoda was stationed in the Philippines, Maine, Okinawa, Arizona, Saudi Arabia, South Carolina, and retired at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.
He was deployed to Panama, Thailand, Australia, Korea, Taiwan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan.
He awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and three Expeditionary Medals.
Skoda has a bachelor of science degree in aviation and a master's degree in business.
PROMOTIONS
New rank in Medical Corps
Army Reserve Col. Dr. Robert J. Marx was promoted to his present rank in the Medical Corps while deployed to Kosovo.
Dr. Marx, who is employed by the Primary Health Network in Sharon, Pa., performs surgery at UPMC Horizon, Northside Medical Center and the Austintown Ambulatory Surgical Center. He is on staff at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Marx has served twice in Afghanistan since 2002.
He and his wife, Rebecca, live in Liberty, and have a daughter, Anna Newman of Evanston, Ill.
DEPLOYED
Specialist home on leave
Army E-4 Matthew C. Hoskins, a supply logistics specialist, is home on leave after a 10-month tour of duty in Afghanistan, with the 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, which is based at Fort Polk, La. Hoskins, a 2004 graduate of Chaney High School, is a son of Charles and Julie Hoskins of Youngstown.

Army Pvt. Jabril Y. McGhee graduated from the Small Arms/Artillery Repairer Advanced Individual Training course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md. McGhee is the son of Karen S. McGhee of Warren and is a 2004 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Warren.

Air Force: Reserve Airman 1st Class Stephanie R. Kennedy (Sto-Rox High School, McKees Rocks, Pa., '04), daughter of Michael Kennedy of Bristolville and Linda Kennedy of Moon Township, Pa.; Airman Brandy N. Weber (East Palestine High School, '06), daughter of William Dilworth of Chain School Road and Christina Dilworth of West Martin Street, both of East Palestine.
