SENTENCINGS Mercer County



The following sentences were imposed recently in Mercer County Common Pleas Court:
Alicia Pugh, 22, of Erie was placed on two years' probation and ordered to make restitution for theft by unlawful taking, a misdemeanor. Pugh stole 218 worth of cigarettes and 371 in cash between July and October 2005 while an employee at Farrell Golden Dawn, 827 Sharon-New Castle Road, Farrell.
Suzanne Stewart, 34, of South Oakland Avenue, Sharon was resentenced to seven to 23 months in prison followed by two years' probation for retail theft, a felony because it was her third or subsequent offense. Stewart had been placed on three years' probation Jan. 23 for stealing a 45 chair from Wal-Mart, 3300 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, in April 2005. Her probation was revoked earlier this month because she violated its terms.
Dwayne Smith, 32, of Hamilton Avenue, Farrell was resentenced to one to four years in prison and ordered to make restitution for a 1993 burglary conviction. He was resentenced because he violated probation. In 1993, Smith was placed on five years' probation for burglarizing Clark Oil, 507 Roemer Blvd., Farrell. In 1998, he was resentenced to ten years' probation.
Carmen Askerneese, 39, of Fruit Avenue, Farrell was sentenced to six to 23 months in prison for simple assault, a misdemeanor. Askerneese grabbed a woman by the throat and choked her Dec. 11, 2005, at a Sharon home, causing pain and abrasions to her neck. Askerneese also threatened her with a knife.
Kevin Evans, 29, with addresses listed on Florence and Budd streets, Sharon, was resentenced to 30 days to two years in Mercer County Jail followed by two years' probation after violating his probation terms. He had been placed on 10 years' probation in 1999 for two felony burglary convictions and a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property.
Melanie Zoccole, 44, of Erie was sentenced to four months to a year in jail followed by two years' probation for felony retail theft. In April, she stole 461 worth of cologne, shoes, baseball caps and clothing from J.C. Penney's, 3405 E. State St., Hermitage. The offense is a felony because it is the third or subsequent offense.
