Mercer County will have 800,000 surplus for emergency fund
MERCER, Pa.-- Mercer County will end the year with a surplus of about 800,000, county Fiscal Director John Logan said.
The excess will be added to the 4.3 million general fund balance which the county had accumulated at the end of 2005 and which serves as a cushion for emergency expenses.
In other business at their meeting Thursday, county commissioners approved purchasing electricity from First Energy Solutions Inc. of Akron, Ohio, from January 2007 to May 2008 for the county's six largest buildings. Logan said the county will save approximately 41,000 over Penn Power's prices.
They renewed a contract with Richard G. English and Associates Inc. of Sharon, agreeing to pay the company 60,516 in 2007 for property tax assessment services.
They hired five attorneys to represent defendants who cannot be represented by the Public Defender's Office. The attorneys and their contract amounts are:
Randall Hetrick and Jarrett Whalen, 70 cases, 28,000; Tedd Nesbit and Michael Hughes, 30 cases, 12,000; Stephen DelPero, 25 cases, 10,000.
