Liberty streaks to seventh straight win, 51-32



LIBERTY -- If it weren't for Howland, Liberty would unbeaten.
But the Leopards have the next-best thing -- a seven-game winning streak after a season-opening loss to Howland.
The Dykes sisters, senior Michelle and sophomore Melissa, had 15 and 12 points, respectively, for Liberty (7-1), in a 51-32 win over Springfield Thursday night.
The owner of a 28-19 halftime lead, the Leopards utilized full-court pressure in the third quarter to extend its lead to 38-24.
Carrie Ritzler and Whitney Yaeger both had 14 points for Springfield. Melissa Huffman added 11 points for the Tigers.
Ursuline 51, Harding 37
YOUNGSTOWN -- Anna Santisi scored 15 points and Danielle Crafter added nine points and 11 rebounds for Ursuline (3-3), which made three 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 20-12 lead.
Mary Alexander added nine points for the Irish. Kamela Bender scored 15 points and Aundra Baldridge had 12 for the Raiders (2-5).
Rayen 97, Wilson 33
YOUNGSTOWN -- Brittany Taylor had 29 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals for Rayen (3-1), while Tieara Jones added 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Jaleesa Beverly (18 points), Kenysha Beacham (11) and Alexandra Hines (10) also scored in double figures.
Whitli Sanders had 13 points for Wilson (1-7).
Yo. Christian 44, Chaney 29
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kara Cooper scored 10 of her 15 points in the second half as Youngstown Christian outscored Chaney 28-16 in the final two quarters.
Cooper also had five assists, while Vickie Bankhead had seven points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles (6-2). Sara Bell had 10 points and eight rebounds.
For Chaney (3-5), Shakayla Eiland had 11 points.
Mooney 51, Columbiana 37
COLUMBIANA -- Mooney's defense widened Columbiana's deficit from three points after one quarter to nine at halftime, but the Clippers battled back before falling.
Katie Griswold had 10 points, while Alex Woytek and Katie Hughes had nine apiece for Mooney. Woytek and Sarah Pelini had six rebounds apiece for the Cards, who converted 21 of 28 free throws.
Columbiana's foul trouble and turnovers caused problems in the second quarter before the Clippers (4-2) recovered to cut its deficit to 34-33. The home team, however, ran out of gas as the Cardinals (4-2) picked up the pace in the final quarter.
For Columbiana, Katie Douglas, a junior, had 10 points, while senior Krista Johnson added nine. Audrey Davidson had five rebounds.
Lakeview 70, Poland 45
CORTLAND -- Lakeview didn't wait long to rebound from its first loss at Brookfield on Monday as the Bulldogs (7-1) rolled.
Lakeview used transition buckets and good outside jumpers to jump out to a 27-4 lead after one quarter.
For the game, the Bulldogs made 27 of 58 goals, while Poland meshed 17 of 66.
Alynn Martin had a game-high 21 points and 11 of her team's 42 rebounds for Lakeview. Senior point guard Jen Baker had 13 points and 10 assists for the winners. Joanna Novotny scored 16 points, while Chelsea Butler added 13 points for the Lakeview.
For Poland (4-2), Kellee Davis had seven of her 16 points in the fourth quarter. Poland pulled down 27 rebounds.
McDonald 33, Mineral Ridge 17
MINERAL RIDGE -- Joh'Vonnie Mosley scored seven points, making 5-of-8 free throws, to lead McDonald in an Inter Tri-County League crossover game.
Emily Dolsak and Lindsey Repp added six points each for the Blue Devils, who led 20-6 at halftime.
Heather Reinhart, Brooke Shaffer and Elyse Hawout scored four points apiece for Mineral Ridge.
Lisbon 71, Leetonia 33
LISBON -- Erica Sims scored 27 points and added eight rebounds, five steals and four assists to lead Lisbon (6-2), which took a 43-15 halftime lead.
Emily Smith added 16 points for the Blue Devils.
Gina Jones had 11 points for Leetonia (1-7).
Girard 45, Jackson-Milton 42
NORTH JACKSON -- Lauren Chiec's basket with 18.2 seconds remaining snapped a 42-42 tie and the senior made the front end of a one-and-one attempt to seal the game with 4.2 seconds on the clock.
Chiec finished with 13 points for Girard (2-6), which has a two-game winning streak after beating LaBrae by 11 points on Monday.
Senior Adrienne Steverson added 11 points and Cynthia Walker grabbed 16 of Girard's 31 rebounds.
Jessica Balent had 15 points for Jackson-Milton, including a basket that tied the game at 42-all at 1:36. Carrie Fiol added 10 points for the Bluejays (6-2).
Beaver Local 45, Wellsville 29
WELLSVILLE -- Mallory Yajko scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Abby Allen added 12 for Beaver Local (7-2), which outscored Wellsville 19-9 in the third quarter to pull away.
Jasmine Richardson had 19 points and six rebounds for Wellsville (2-4).
