Springfield has strong second half at Lowellville



Dave Drevna scored a career-high 21 points to lead Reserve over Range.
LOWELLVILLE -- Dane Dobson had 17 points for the Springfield High boys basketball team, which outscored Lowellville 30-15 in the second half to win 60-48 on Tuesday.
Springfield pulled down 26 rebounds, with Corey Cunningham getting seven. Cunningham and Nate Schuler also scored 12 points apiece, while Todd Kibby added 10.
Mario Nero had a game-high 27 points for Lowellville. The 5-10 senior point guard knocked down six of his seven 3-pointers in the first half. Teammate Jeremy Gruber, a senior, grabbed 10 of his team's 18 rebounds.
Western Reserve 55, South Range 40
BERLIN CENTER -- Dave Drevna scored a career-high 21 points and added five rebounds to lead Western Reserve.
John Porterfield added eight points for the Blue Devils (4-0), who outscored the Raiders 36-23 in the second half.
David Maxwell had 10 points and four rebounds for Range (3-3).
Mineral Ridge 65, Jackson-Milton 49
MINERAL RIDGE -- T.J. Bevilacqua scored 18 points, while Dan Hawout added 14 for the Rams (2-3), who took a 39-24 halftime lead. Nick Dominic had 13 points.
For Jackson-Milton, Nik Kaley had 17 points.
Wellsville 43, Lisbon 36
LISBON -- Arlan Bailey scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds and four steals for the Blue Devils (0-6, 0-3).
The Tigers jumped ahead 12-3 after one quarter.
Southern 57, Heartland Christian 52
COLUMBIANA -- Tyler Baker's 29 points led the way for Southern, which also got 10 points from Andrew Diaz.
Justin Storm and Nate Hall evenly split 26 points for Heartland.
Windham 71, Newton Falls 49
NEWTON FALLS -- Cody Apthorpe scored 20 points and Zach Jacobson added 19 for Windham, which took a 36-21 halftime lead.
Marcus Fowler scored 20 points to lead Newton Falls (1-2).
Youngstown Christian 57, Cornerstone Christian 56
YOUNGSTOWN -- After hanging onto a slim lead, Youngstown Christian missed the front end of a one-and-one attempt and then survived a desperation attempt from Cornerstone Christian in the East Suburban Conference game.
Youngstown (2-2, 1-1) had a 23-22 edge in goals, but was on the lower end of the game's free throws conversions, 16-6.
With Youngstown's Ed Gonda on the bench in foul trouble, Cornerstone (2-2, 1-1) benefited from the bonus foul situation in both halves.
Six-four David Colbert had 17 points for the winners, while Gonda added 14 points. Colbert also had eight rebounds, while Toba Olarewaju and Dante Yanno had six apiece. Olarewaju also had 11 points.
Cornerstone's Andy Weybrecht had eight of his game-high 23 points in the second quarter.
Alliance 74, Southeast 49
RAVENNA -- Chris Bivins and Courtland Brown scored 19 and 18 points respectively for the Aviators.
For the Pirates, Matt Bright and Ozzic Thomas each scored 10 points.
Farrell 84, Wilmington 53
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Donald Jackson and Josh Williams evenly split 34 points for the Steelers (5-1).
Farrell scored 50 points in the two middle quarters to take a 67-36 lead. Ryan Foht scored 14 points for the Greyhounds (4-2).
Girls late MondaySoutheast 73, Alliance 40
ALLIANCE -- Mya Levels had 21 points for unbeaten Southeast (7-0), which pulled away from Alliance with a 26-point third quarter.
Meagan Wain had 17 points and 17 rebounds for the Pirates, who had 28 goals to 12 goals for winless Alliance (0-6).
