Boardman secures first win of season



Ursuline stayed unbeaten with a 65-44 win over CVCA.
BOARDMAN -- T.J. Hosa scored 12 points while Nick Asimakopoulos and Eric Johnson added 10 apiece, as the Boardman High boys basketball team used a balanced attack to outscore Rayen in the last quarter by 21-14 to post its first win of the season, 59-54,
Dan Kabala contributed eight points and seven rebounds for Boardman (1-5).
Kenny Carter tallied 18 points, including three 3-point goals, to spark Rayen (1-5), while Bre Boudrey and Nick Arrington scored nine points each. Roncarlos Hilton had five rebounds and as many assists while Darrin Taylor also had five rebounds for the Tigers.
Ursuline 65, CVCA 44
YOUNGSTOWN -- D'Aundray Brown poured in 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, as Ursuline High its unbeaten streak to five games.
Nick McCartney and Ryan Burton added 12 points each to aid Ursuline, which took a 34-7 advantage with four minutes to go in second quarter.
Robert Pecchio had 11 points and four rebounds and Mark O'Brien nine points for CVCA (2-2).
Howland 60, Fitch 50, OT
AUSTINTOWN -- Jared Kirin scored six of his 11 points in overtime to lead Howland's 13-3 scoring advantage in the extra session for the comeback win, the first of the season for the Tigers.
Nathan Cope scored 20 points, including four 3-point goals, to lead Howland, which rallied to overcome a 36-19 deficit with about three minutes left in the third quarter behind Cope's scoring that keyed a balanced attack.
Kyle Spence hit 12 points for Howland. Jon Stockman scored 17 points and Bill Jones 10 for Fitch (1-4).
Sebring 61, Wilson 46
SEBRING -- Zach Tieche scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds to key a balanced attack as Sebring outscored Wilson 30-9 in the last quarter to rally.
Jesse James scored 13 points for Sebring (4-1). Jones was injured with about three minutes left in the game but returned to score eight points down the stretch to spark Sebring's comeback from a four-point deficit. The Trojans made 10-for-10 from the foul line in the last quarter.
Jake Scott added 11 points and eight assists and Brett Mitcel 10 points for Sebring. William Johnson had 28 points and 12 rebounds to lead Wilson (3-2).
St. Thomas Aquinas 68, Mooney 47
LOUISVILLE -- St. Thomas Aquinas had 11 players put up points on its home floor. Adam Grimm's 17 points paced Aquinas (3-1).
Mooney's L.J. Sutton, a junior, had a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds, while Mike Gemma, a junior, had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals, who have lost three straight since a season-opening win.
