Westminster 99, Pitt-Greensburg 94
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Dom Joseph had 15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead Westminster (5-4), which held off hot-shooting Pitt-Greensburg in the second half. The Titans have a winning record for the first time this season. Greg Rosatelli had 16 points and five assists, while Nick Adams had 15 points, Ryne Murray had 14 points and nine rebounds, Steve Bielich had 14 points and Craig Hannon scored 13. The Titans outrebounded Pitt 39-29, allowing them to overcome a 61 percent shooting performance by the Bobcats. Matt Rowland scored 17 points to lead five players in double figures for Pitt-Greensburg (1-8). The game was played closely early on as no team led by more than five points for the last 13 minutes of the first half. After the Titans took a five-point, 53-48 lead into halftime, Westminster's lead swelled to 12 points (60-48) just two minutes into the second half. On two occasions for the remainder of the game, the Titans went up by as many as 11 points and saw the Bobcats cut the lead to three points, before Pitt-Greensburg waged within one point with 32 seconds remaining. Joseph was able to grab a missed Rosatelli foul shot with 19 seconds remaining before knocking down two foul shots with 18 seconds left to secure the win.
Akron 79, St. Francis, Pa. 44
AKRON -- Dru Joyce scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and Quade Milum added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Akron. Jeremiah Wood added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Zips (7-2). St. Francis (4-6) scored the first basket but it was the only time it led during the game, and Akron had pulled to a 37-19 lead by halftime. The Zips' 35-point lead came with 8 seconds left to play and was their largest of the night. J.R. Enright led St. Francis in scoring with 13 and Devin Sweetney added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Akron outshot St. Francis 43 percent to 25 percent overall and 42 percent to 27 percent on 3-pointers. St. Francis' 17 of 22 free throws led Akron's 9 of 13.
WOMEN
Vermont 91, Kent State 73
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Too many offensive weapons from Vermont (8-2) proved to be trouble for Kent State. The Catamounts shot 70 percent from the field in the first half to give Vermont a comfortable 51-34 lead at the break. Senior guard Sarah Burgess led four Golden Flashes in double figures with 15 points and Mallorie Griffith pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds. Vermont scored the first nine points of the game and never trailed. In a fast-paced first half, nine different Catamounts combined to hit 16-of-23 shots. The Catamounts extended its early lead to 25-9 at the 12:19 mark before the Flashes went on a 14-5 run to cut the lead to six (29-23) with eight minutes left in the half. Vermont's May Kotsopoulos then answered with a 3-pointer to start a seven-point run for the Cats.
