School board OKs borrowing

McDONALD -- The board of education approved a measure Monday to borrow against a 2-mill levy passed in November, in anticipation of tax receipts.
The district will borrow 150,000 this year from the permanent improvement levy, which was approved for the next five years and generates 60,174 a year. The board is allowed to borrow up to half of what the levy generates in total, district Treasurer Thomas Radabaugh said.
The board plans to enlarge its current fleet of four buses to five by spending 70,000 of the money it borrows, for the purchase of a new, 71-seat bus.
The district does not expect to receive the new bus for eight or nine months and it will be equipped with an extra storage area underneath to carry equipment when transporting athletic teams.
The bus is being bought through the Trumbull County Bus Consortium, which negotiates as a group for local districts to get them the best price possible, from Meyers Equipment Co., Canfield.
The board usually sells its oldest bus but has decided to keep it this time, Radabaugh said.
In addition, the board will develop a capital improvement program for work to be done in the district over the summer using the remaining 80,000.
