BOARDMAN -- Hourly employees and substitute classified workers of the Boardman Local Schools will soon see a difference in their paychecks.
The school board approved new rate schedules for nonunion employees at its regular meeting Monday.
Summer school instructors, after-school supervisors, Saturday school supervisors and home instruction tutors are among the hourly employees affected. The number of employees totals around 20, said James Massey, director of operations.
Also receiving raises are substitute nonunion workers including bus drivers, cafeteria workers and cleaning personnel.
The increases begin Jan. 1 for hourly employees and will be phased over three time periods, with the final increase on July 1, 2008. The increases approved by the board for substitutes only call for raises beginning Jan. 1.
Most nonunion employees are receiving raises of 25 cents per hour, beginning Jan. 1. Exceptions include home instruction tutors, whose wage is being increased by 50 cents per hour, and summer school instructors, who will make 1.35 more an hour, also beginning Jan. 1.
"We take a look at this about every three years and make changes after we're done negotiating with our [contract] employees," Massey said.
