Woman charged with inducing panic

BOARDMAN -- A Youngstown woman is charged with inducing panic, accused of reporting a robbery in progress in an effort to get police to let her into her apartment.
Police got a call Sunday afternoon of a robbery in progress at Family Dollar, Market Street. When officers arrived, an employee assured them that business was operating normally at the store.
Sonya Shannon, 26, of Elm Street, Youngstown, also approached the officers saying she needed the police because her landlord wouldn't let her back inside her Youngstown apartment.
Youngstown police wouldn't respond when called about the dispute with the landlord, so Shannon said she got a ride to Family Dollar and called township police from a pay phone.
Shannon denied reporting a robbery, but police reports say the 911 system recorded the conversation.
Shannon was at the Mahoning County Justice Center.
