Salem bounces back to defeat Poland

Tuesday, August 29, 2006 Amy Scullion, Sarah Brobeck and Taylor Toothman sparked the Quakers. POLAND — Amy Scullion had 13 kills and Sarah Brobeck added 12, while Taylor Toothman contributed 28 assists, as Salem High rallied to defeat Poland, 15-19, 25-13, 25-14, in the season opener for both volleyball teams in a Metro Athletic Conference match Monday. Ashley Conger had 17 assists and five digs and Doni Muransky 12 kills to pace Poland. Liberty 25-25-25, Badger 4-9-7 LIBERTY — Jessie Szakacs scored 19 points with six aces to lead Liberty. Szakacs also had 22 assists and seven kills. Emily Hall had 15 points with 10 aces and made 15 assists for the Leopards (2-0). Megan Kay had 11 points and four kills , Caitlyn Fader made four digs and three aces, and Darby O'Donnell had four aces. For Badger (0-1), Morgan Snider made three digs while Cassie Tingler, Megan Brainard and Trisha Hall had two points each. JVs: Liberty 23-25-25, Badger 25-7-11. Crestview 25-25-24-25, Leetonia 9-10-26-7 COLUMBIANA — Chelsea Bowker collected 13 kills and four points while Elyse Mongillo had 31 assists and 12 points to pace the Rebels (1-0, 1-0). For the Bears, Valerie Goerig blocked nine times and Nikki Huston dug 15 balls. JVs: Crestview 25-25, Leetonia 11-12. Champion 23-25-19-25, Warren Harding 25-11-25-20 WARREN — Katie Hite had 15 assists while Jackie Knepp added seven kills and Amy Allen two blocks to pace Champion in the season opener for both teams at the Harding gym. Julia Tzoulia had 15 assists while Jasmine Stringer and Belinda Hernon each had two kills and as many blocks for Harding. JVs: Champion 25-25, Harding 4-8.
