Poland, Salem skirmish to 1-1 standoff in debut



Ursuline blanked Maplewood, 5-0, behind Justin Mihaly's three goals.
POLAND -- Alan Gavolas scored for Poland and Seth Harding netted a goal for Salem as the two Metro Athletic Conference boys soccer teams played to a 1-1 tie on Monday.
Blake Rhein assisted on Gavolas' goal while Diego Rivera had an assist for the Quakers.
Poland (0-0-1, 0-0-1) goalkeeper Tomas Lange made five saves while Jonathan Kane made nine for Salem (0-0-1, 0-0-1). Poland out-shot Salem, 11-6.
JVs: Poland, 6-0.
Ursuline 5, Maplewood 0
MECCA -- Justin Mihaly scored three goals while Vlad Lungu and Giovanni Borgia scored the others for the Irish (2-2-0).
Lungu made two assists while Borgia and Mihaly had one each. Goalkeeper John Colla made four saves.
Ursuline took 13 shots and Maplewood five.
Maplewood goalkeepers Tyler Perkins and Steve Ramsey combined for seven saves.
South Range 2, East Palestine 2
NORTH LIMA -- Mark Johnson and Andrew Edwards scored for South Range (0-2-1, 0-0-1 Inter-Tri County League). Johnson also had an assist. Goalkeeper Mike Yeagley made eight saves.
For East Palestine, Austin Pence and Allison McMillen scored. Josh Kiglics and Emily Casto had assists while goalkeeper Becky Hill made 11 saves.
Crestview 6, Columbiana 1
COLUMBIANA -- Greg Bing scored three goals while Austin Elwonger, Mitchell See and Aaron Stewart had one each for the Rebels (3-0, 1-0 ITCL). Stewart made two assists while Elwonger, See, Justin Kleinknecht and Wendy Twaddle had one each.
Robert Naughton scored for the Clippers.

NILES -- Ariana Devengenchie scored two goals and made an assist as Howland defeated Niles, 5-0.
Olivia Wilson, Melissa Kohn and Megan Long also scored for the Tigers (1-0-1, 1-0 MAC).
Annamarie Wall and Jessica Wilson had assists. Howland goalkeeper Meagan McLaughlin made three saves.
Niles (1-2-1, 0-1) goalkeeper Gabby Belcastro made 11 saves.

EAST LIVERPOOL -- Noelle Fox scored three goals while Molly Martin and Audrey Smith scored two apiece for the Cardinals (1-0, 1-0 MAC). Jill Terreri, Devin Shryock, Shea Price, Jessica Hughes, Audra Frimpong and Jill Halfhill scored one each.
Hallie Seiser made two assists while Terrieri, Martin, Cassie Seeman and Jenne Battaglia had one each.
Goalkeeper Anokha Padubidri made two saves as Canfield out-shot the Potters, 43-3.
East Liverpool (0-2, 0-1) goalkeeper Janel Krafft made 15 saves.

ANDOVER -- The Cooper sisters led the Eagles to their first win in three starts.
Kristi Cooper collected three goals and two assists while Kara Cooper had three goals and one assist.
Amanda Vestal also scored for the Eagles who led 4-1 at the break.
Olivia Holt scored twice for the Lakers (0-3).
Poland 7, Salem 1
SALEM -- Maureen Malone scored three goals while Kelly Storkel had two goals. Sam Robertson and Jackie Cavalier one goal apiece to lead Poland (1-0, 1-0 MAC).
Kasey Eckman contributed four assists.
Suzanne Waterbeck had the only goal for Salem (1-2, 0-1).
Goalkeeper Sarah Conrad of Salem had 12 saves while Poland goaltender Sam Stanich made five saves.
Boardman 3, Champion 1
BOARDMAN -- Jessica Winters, Chloe Zidian and Katie Stoll scored for the Spartans while Brittany Skeels scored for the Golden Flashes.
Champion goalkeeper Beth Sayers made six saves and Boardman's Lani Vlad made four.
