MLB ROUNDUP Monday's other games

Tuesday, August 29, 2006 NATIONAL LEAGUE Mets 8, Phillies 3 NEW YORK — Carlos Delgado, David Wright and Paul Lo Duca drove in two runs apiece as New York won for the ninth time in 10 games. Jose Reyes had two hits and scored two runs, and John Maine (4-3) pitched 61/3 innings for the Mets, who increased their NL East lead to 151/2 games over the second-place Phillies. Ryan Howard hit his NL-leading 47th homer and Pat Burrell had a two-run drive for Philadelphia. Howard homered in all three games of the series and has seven homers in his last 15 games against the Mets. Jeff Conine, Philadelphia's newest acquisition, was in uniform but didn't play. The Phillies got him and cash from the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday for a player to be named. Marlins 4, Brewers 2 MIAMI — Josh Johnson lowered his major league-leading ERA to 2.87, and Florida extended its winning streak to eight. Dan Uggla hit his 20th home run and added a sacrifice fly for the Marlins (64-66), who had not been within two games of .500 since they were 1-3 before losing April 9. Johnson (12-6) won his third straight decision, striking out seven in a season-high 72/3 innings. He allowed two runs and eight hits. Joe Borowski struck out the side in the ninth for his 31st save in 35 chances. Milwaukee was swept in a four-game series for the second time this season, following a wipeout in Pittsburgh from May 29 to June 1. Ben Sheets (4-6) gave up three runs — one earned — and six hits in seven innings with six strikeouts. Associated Press Copyright 2006 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
