Children Services probe endangering report

AUSTINTOWN -- Mahoning County Children Services is investigating a police report of child endangering by a township woman.
The Austintown Police Department reported getting an "irate" call from a 40-year-old woman about 9:41 p.m. Saturday, requesting that police get milk for her 2-year-old daughter.
When police responded at the woman's Westmont Drive residence, she smelled of alcohol and had difficulty walking, standing and speaking, the report states.
Police then entered the home where they found the woman's daughter covered in dirt and chewing on a rusted metal rod. Police also observed that the girl, who was sitting in the kitchen, was barefoot and surrounded by broken glass.
According to the report, there was nothing in the refrigerator. No charges have been filed; the child was removed to the custody of her grandfather and Children Services is investigating.
