In 2005, he was a first-team All-Gateway pick and a second-team academic all-conference and all-district selection. He led the line last year in winning performances with fourth. This season, he has been tabbed a preseason first-team All-American by I-AA.org, The Sports Network and the Football Gazette. Women's soccer team blanked YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State (0-2) played an evenly matched game against Northern Michigan (2-0) using defensive strategies to keep the first half scoreless, but the Penguins could not stop a high free kick resulting in the 1-0 loss. The Penguins only allowed one shot by Northern Michigan in the first half. The Wildcats also stepped up the defense as the Penguins' only shot came from Carrie Wack. In the second half, freshman Kate Bonn took one shot on goal for the Penguins. The Wildcats totaled eight shots. The only score of the game came on free kick at 63:09 by Northern Michigan midfielder Amanda Gadomski. The Penguins' last hope of scoring came in the final 15 seconds on a free kick by sophomore Jenna Fink that was just wide of the net. "We dominated the first half as well as in Friday's game, but still came up losing," YSU coach Anthony James said. "The team has to stay focused for our next game and make scoring our top priority." YSU will be back in action at home on Friday at 7 p.m. to take on Canisius. LOCAL Mooney loses BAY — The Cardinal Mooney High boys soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season Saturday, losing 1-0 to Division II powerhouse Bay Village. Sunday's contest between Columbus, Ga., and Kawaguchi City, Japan, was postponed because of rain. The game is now scheduled to start tonight at 8. Little League has never played a championship game on a Monday night. It will be the latest start time for a title game, too. The previous latest start was 6:30 p.m. two years ago. Little League president Stephen Keener said organizers wanted to give the field a chance to dry out after rain all day Sunday, and that the weather forecast called for drier conditions later today. Cowboys fine Owens $9,500 IRVING, Texas — Terrell Owens has finally pushed the Dallas Cowboys too far, drawing a $9,500 fine for missing a team meeting and a rehabilitation session and being late to an offensive meeting. "That's our club business. That's going to be accounted for," team owner Jerry Jones said. The incidents occurred Friday, the team's final day preparing for a preseason game against San Francisco. The Cowboys beat the 49ers 17-7, making them 3-0 this preseason without Owens playing any of the games because of a hamstring injury that's also kept him out of 19 of 31 practices since the start of training camp. During a postgame television interview, Jones did not mention the fine but answered several other questions about Owens. Jones said his only concern with the receiver is "injury, not all this other stuff you hear about." Vindicator staff/wire reports
