City man faces weapon and drug charges



Sunday, August 27, 2006 YOUNGSTOWN — Police charged Theodore V. Burke, 23, of Southern Boulevard with carrying a concealed weapon and drug possession after stopping the car he was driving because it had an expired registration sticker. An officer on patrol spotted the expired sticker around 7 p.m. Friday and stopped the car in the 300 block of East Philadelphia Avenue. The officer said he smelled marijuana coming from the car's open window and ordered Burke out of the vehicle. He found a loaded 9mm handgun in Burke's waistband. The officer said he also found a small container of suspected marijuana in Burke's pants pocket, and some suspected marijuana cigarettes were found in the car. In addition to the weapon and drug charges, Burke was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear in court on a traffic charge. He was in the Mahoning County Justice Center awaiting arraignment.
