Scrappers blanked by Muckdogs, 3-0

Batavia's pitching held Mahoning Valley to just four hits.
BATAVIA, N.Y. -- For the second time this week, the Batavia Muckdogs' pitching staff shut down the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
Starter Edgar Garcia and two relievers limited the Scrappers to four hits in Batavia's 3-0 victory Friday night in the New York-Penn League.
On Monday night, the Muckdogs defeated Mahoning Valley, 1-0.
Tied for division lead
The Scrappers (33-30), 3-6 since the league's All-Star break, are in a virtual tie with Auburn for first place in the Pinckney Division. Auburn (32-29), which has four games against Mahoning Valley in the last 12 days of the season, is ahead on percentage points.
Jason Denham had two hits, including a double, for Mahoning Valley, but Matthew McBride's double and Jared Goedert's single were the team's only other hits.
In fact, Goedert and McBride had their hits back-to-back in the first inning, but they were stranded.
Garcia retires 14 straight
After they reached, Garcia retired 14 batters in a row before Denham's double in the sixth.
Garet Cruz and Reymond Cruz finished up for Batavia. Cruz pitched a perfect ninth for his third save.

The teams conclude their short, two-game, series tonight.
