Nehlen throws 6 TDs as Brookfield cruises



The Warriors had little trouble beating Conneaut, 48-12.
BROOKFIELD -- Brookfield junior quarterback Dave Nehlen completed 15 of 23 passes for 253 yards and six touchdowns, including three to A.K. Livingston, to lead the Warriors past Conneaut 48-12 on Friday in a non-league game at Brookfield Stadium.
Livingston caught four passes for 54 yards, while Garrett McMullen had four catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns and Mike Stanish added three catches for 62 yards. Brandon Underwood also had an 11-yard touchdown reception.
Senior running back Javis Bills ran 16 times for 109 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown that tied the game at 7 midway through the first quarter. The Warriors scored six more times, taking a 48-6 lead before Conneaut scored a late touchdown.
Ian Pelow scored both touchdowns for Conneaut and ran 20 times for 55 yards. Nick Distlerath added seven carries for 49 yards.
Champion 9, Edgewood 0
ASHTABULA -- It went three quarters before Champion was able to pull ahead as Thomas Cage caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Joe Cvengros. Ron Fulzarz made a placement for an extra point.
Later in the quarter, the Golden Flashes added a safety when Mark Bartone of the Warriors recovered a fumbled snap in his own end zone.
Cvengros rushed for 36 yards on eight carries and he connected on 4-of-5 passes for 36 yards. Champion finished with 132 yards on 28 carries.
The Warriors rushed for 140 yards on 48 attempts, but failed to complete a pass in three tries.
Harvey 27, Lakeview 12
CORTLAND -- Painesville Harvey took a 21-0 lead in the second quarter and Lakeview managed to get within 21-12, but couldn't get any closer.
Michael Braunegg of the Bulldogs recovered a fumble in the Red Raiders' end zone and John Diehl scored on a 29-yard run to pace the Bulldogs.
David Garrett scored on a 49-yard run and returned an intercepted pass 36 yards for a TD to spark Harvey.
Lakeview rushed 42 times for 110 yards and it was 9-of-19 for 78. Eric Pirtz led the Bulldogs as he rushed 13 times for 73 yards.
The Red Raiders rushed for 136 yards and passed for 142.
